First Day of School

Monday, July 7th, 2014

Today was the start of our new schedule!!  Mom and I started our Intensive Chinese classes and the kids started their summer camp.  We all rode the e-bikes to the university and that was a sight!  I wished I had had a camera mounted on my bike to record the adventure ---- 10 people – 5 ebikes – morning rush hour traffic!  Crazy!

Mom and I had placements tests to take and then a tour of the campus.  We got University ID cards!  Woohoo!  The ID card also works as a bus pass so we put money on it.  I thought  the BYU Chinese course would have helped me but, I didn't know very much on the placement test. We had a written part and a spoken part.

Most of the students in the program are high school students from Liverpool, England.  We feel a little bit out of place but there are a few other more mature students.  We have met a nice gal from Italy, another from Russia and another young mom from Japan who is here with her husband and has 2 young boys.
Our culture activity for the day is playing this game kinda like hacky sack but, with these feather cocks.

After class we went to KFC for lunch. I got fried shrimp, mashed potatoes and gravy and, of course, ice cream sundeas!

During the orientation part of class today, they showed us how to pour tea. It really is an art to pour tea.
