Jinji Lake Music Fountain

Jinji Lake Music Fountain - 05/30/14

Our apartment is about a block away from Jinji Lake (Golden Chicken Lake) where every Friday and Saturday night a water, fire and light show is held. The show is similar to the fountain show at the Bellagio in Las Vegas but so much more extravagant! The show is 30 minutes long is just spectacular!

We had heard about the show since we arrived and had been meaning to go. This last weekend was the last time the show was put on until 2017. They are doing some major construction near our house and the area around Jinji Lake so the show is being cancelled until construction is complete. We decided that we better go see this famous show. We along with 1/2 of the other 5 million people that live in Suzhou decided to go as well. Xinggang Jia (the road next to our compound) had a major traffic jam and cars just decided to park where they were because they couldn't move. We all grabbed a family members belt loop and filed single file through the massive crowd.

We kept pushing through and ended up with some pretty amazing spots. Of course, it was standing room only. What I learned is that Chinese people are really pretty friendly. With a crowd that size in America there would have been pushing, shoving, shouting vulgar words and people losing their temper. This crowd was was friendly and the majority of people had a smile on their faces. It was a very pleasant experience!

Half way over there I realized I didn't have my camera and had to default to my cell phone camera. I can't post all 85 of the pictures I took but, I'll share a few of my favorites. After the show, we tried some new street food that was pretty good. The street vendors have the best $1 menu ever. The sandwiches that we got were just a buck. :)
