Day 4: Scrabooking

Thursday, June 12, 2014

Today is the Philippines Independence day. Being that we are two foreigners and the front desk told us that all of the police have the day off, we decided to stay in. I got up and decided to scrapbook and blog. It was a great day to catch up on much needed journal writing, scrapbooking some of my adventures in China and writing on my blog. I watched movies all day today and even watched "The Magic of Ordinary Days" two or three times. I really enjoyed myself while Connie slept.

We had bought a watermelon at the market so I cut that up for lunch. It's just amazing to me at how wonderful the fruit is. The fruit in the states tastes so plasticy compared to this. I now know what fruit really tastes like. :)

Connie got up about 2:30 pm and we headed out to get some food. We walked to an Italian restaurant that we wanted to try but it was closed!!!  This was the second time we were there and it was closed!! Because it is the Philippines Independence Day, we found that lots of local places are closed.  So, we walked to that Mega Mall again and we treated ourselves to dinner at Chili’s.  Connie had a real American hamburger!  I opted for shrimp tacos again! They were pretty good!

One thing that I have noticed about being in the Philippines is they eat a lot of meat and not many vegetables. At any other time in my life I would have been thrilled and welcomed the meat. Now, that my diet has changed I just want vegetables!! I can't seem to find them any where. I realized that I have settled into China being my home because, I found myself thinking, I just want to go home and have some rice and vegetables.

On our way home from the Mega Mall, it started to rain. Connie decided to pull out her poncho that we bought before the trip. She hadn't opened the package and we needed scissors. Not a very effective use of a poncho! I managed to get the package open before the heavy rains started pouring down.

Mangoes are the best thing here!! I got this package of dried ones and the were so yummy! We bought a couple of fresh ones too. I don't know why I saved them for the last day. I should have been eating that all week instead of the meat! :)
