Family Outing

Wednesday, June 18th, 2014

We went on a tour of a new school in Suzhou.  A group in Britain is opening an international school called “Blue Tassel School of Suzhou.”  They are marketing to professors at Vernon’s university so we went on the tour.  It is still a new venture and they are building dormitories and classroom buildings to open with a new international section for Fall 2015.  The campus has lots of trees, a canal with the cool Chinese bridges and they have lots of big plans.  We talked to them about the possibility of application for teaching in trade for tuition for the kiddos.  Connie and I polished up our resumes and sent them off.  If they want to develop a fine arts program, it would be fun to be a part of developing that!  Connie has experience in building programs like this from scratch. Nothing will likely come of it, but if it would be fun for the kids to have an international school experience!!!  It is fun to dream.

We found a guy on the street playing a Chinese violin. David and Connie took turns playing as he showed them how. We gave him a few RMB and off we went.

There are tons of millipedes and centipedes every where!! Back home I was always the one to spot them and it's no different here. I see them every where. This just happened to be the largest one that I've seen yet. Yuck!

We took a family trip to Sam's Club to check out prices. All of the large stores are in "malls" they usually take up a couple of floors and have lots of shops all around. Sam's Club is no different and there is this little shop that Vern had eaten at before so we had this yummy flat bread for dinner. Sam's Club was very different here than in the US. Most of the items are imported but have super high prices. They have a different model of being an upscale store rather than the bulk discount store like the states. I wasn't impressed.
